Juvederm Q & A

What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a filler that’s injected into fine lines and wrinkles to smooth the skin and make it firmer. The active ingredient in Juvéderm is hyaluronic acid, a natural substance produced by your body that keeps younger skin plump and unlined.

When injected into your wrinkles, the hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm fills the spaces between the facial fibers and restores the volume that’s lost as a result of the aging process. The hyaluronic acid further aids water retention in the facial fibers, enhancing the effect of the Juvéderm treatment.

Juvéderm comes in several different formulations for use in specific procedures, such as:

  • Enhancing cheekbones
  • Facial sculpting
  • Hand rejuvenation
  • Liquid face-lifts
  • Plumping lips
  • Reducing lines and wrinkles

Juvéderm is FDA-approved for use as a dermal filler and is proven to be safe and effective. You just need to have a sensitivity test four weeks before your treatment to make sure you aren’t allergic to Juvéderm, but because hyaluronic acid is a natural substance, this isn’t typically a problem.

How is Juvéderm administered?

When you attend your treatment session, the staff at Starkey Medical Esthetics make every effort to ensure you’re comfortable and relaxed. The procedure isn’t painful, but you’re likely to feel the scratch of the needle when the Juvéderm’s injected, so your practitioner can put a topical anesthetic or cooling packs on your skin before the injections to ensure your comfort.

Your practitioner injects the Juvéderm into precisely the right areas on your skin, which is marked beforehand. Once injected, the Juvéderm needs gently massaging into your face, to make sure it spreads evenly into the treatment site. You’ll see the effects as soon as you’ve had your treatment, which only takes a matter of minutes.

How long do the effects of Juvéderm last?

Juvéderm treatments can last between one and two years, varying according to the area treated. To maintain the effects of your Juvéderm treatment, it’s best to have further treatments every year or two, as advised by the team at Starkey Medical Esthetics.
